Selena Dukes, 23: Killed While Helping Friend In Domestic Dispute
The young mother was reportedly trying to calm the arguing couple.
It was Mother’s Day weekend of 2021 when Selena Dukes visited an apartment complex in South Fulton, Georgia. Her friend was having a domestic argument with her boyfriend, and although it’s unclear whether Selena went on her own or her friend called for help, Selena made her way over.
It’s reported that when the 23-year-old arrived at the scene, the couple was in the thick of an intense fight. The friend was there to pick up her infant at her ex’s home, but there seemed to be a disagreement over the transfer of the child from its father, 33-year-old Diante Gore.

Selena Dukes reportedly tried to keep the peace between the acrimonious couple, but attempts were rejected. Then, in the parking lot, things turned tragic after Gore allegedly retrieved his weapon and opened fire. Selena, the mother of a daughter who is pre-school age, was shot in the back and died at the scene.
Witnesses were said to have stood in disbelief, and it’s reported that Gore took off on foot to avoid authorities. At the time of this publication, Gore has not yet been located. Fox 5 News reports that authorities have confirmed with them that once detained, Gore faces charges of murder, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.
“She was loved, loved by a lot of people. A sweet, nice, very bubbly person,” said her cousin, Shaneka Newton. “We know who you are, police know who you are, please come forward and turn yourself in, it was a senseless killing.”
Several people gathered in Selena’s hometown of Smyrna, Georgia, and held a candlelight vigil in her honor. Meanwhile, the status of this case is unclear. However, there are several reports about “Diante Gore” regarding his arrests tied to forgery and domestic violence. Of the latter, the report claimed Gore kicked a woman in her face.
