According to reports, there was some sort of mistake made, and Mattie was not only discharged from the hospital without her family’s knowledge, but she was taken to a homeless shelter called the Restoration House. The Charley Project reported that the shelter was “in the 3500 block of Dumast in the Frayser section of town.”
She Walked Out Of The Shelter & Vanished
Upon arriving at the shelter on July 30, 2008, Mattie’s paperwork was quickly processed, and she was set to stay at Restoration House for two weeks. Mattie reportedly walked outside the shelter to smoke a cigarette and has never been seen again. Information about this case and the subsequent investigation is scarce.
Further, Mattie is said to have once worked as a secretary for the Memphis City Council and is beloved by her large family, which includes two children and nine grandkids. There have reportedly been no leads to help investigators find out what happened to this ailing grandmother on that summer day all those years ago.
