A face can now be placed with a missing person case that spent decades without a publicly available photograph. In March 2026, a contributor following Katrina Ashford’s disappearance reported that school photograph researchers had previously located photos and added them to her NamUs profile. The images appear to show Katrina as a student years before she disappeared from Northern California in 1972.
The development does not answer what happened to her. Katrina remains missing, and the publicly available record surrounding her disappearance is still limited.
She was last seen by her parents in San Rafael, California, on July 11, 1972. Her vehicle was recovered in Marin County three days later, on July 14.

School Photos Put A Face To Katrina’s Case
When Our Black Girls first covered Katrina’s disappearance in 2019, no publicly available photograph of her could be located. That changed after researchers searching historical records found school images associated with Katrina.
Acalanes High School alumni records list a Katrina among the school’s Class of 1969 in Lafayette, California. Researchers have also cited yearbook material from West Campus Junior High School.
The Doe Network added Katrina to its missing person database in October 2025. Its listing currently identifies the status of her dental records, fingerprints, and DNA as unknown.
No further publicly released information explains where Katrina may have gone after she was last seen or how her vehicle was recovered.
Katrina Ashford: What To Know
At the time of her disappearance, Katrina Ashford was either 5 feet 0 inches or 5 feet 7 inches tall, depending on the public record, and weighed about 130 pounds. She had black hair and brown eyes. Current public listings identify Katrina as 18 years old when she disappeared, although older records listed her as 19.
