Staying in touch with family was part of Destiney Gunnison’s routine. Her mother, Erica Gunnison, told FOX 5 Atlanta that going weeks without hearing from her daughter was completely out of character.
Destiney, 29, was last seen on May 12, 2024, after leaving her father’s home in East Point, Georgia, to visit a friend in Atlanta’s Oakland City neighborhood. She has not been seen or heard from since.
Her family’s concern deepened because Destiney experiences seizures and requires medication. Erica also said her daughter has a cognitive disability that can affect how she judges other people’s intentions, making the prolonged silence even more alarming.

Erica described Destiney as someone who tends to trust others, telling FOX 5 Atlanta, “She just thinks everyone has a good heart.”
Her mother also emphasized how unusual it was for Destiney to remain out of contact for so long. She said her daughter had never missed a Thanksgiving or other family occasion and was accustomed to calling home. As months passed without any communication, Erica said she began to fear foul play. Police have not publicly confirmed evidence of a crime.
Publicly available information does not identify the friend Destiney planned to visit, whether she ever arrived in Oakland City, or how she intended to travel there.
