Whenever Terrell Sallet visited Florida, his sister would sometimes send him home with a song. Altomease Sallet had a beautiful singing voice, although she rarely performed publicly, and Gladys Knight’s “Midnight Train to Georgia” was one of her favorites. The siblings also kept up the tradition of calling each other on their birthdays, no matter the distance. In 2001, Terrell never received his usual call.

His sister disappeared on June 28, 2001, after leaving the Cady Bag Company in Pearson, a small town in Atkinson County, Georgia. Altomease was 37 and finished work around 11:00 p.m. She lived with her mother and brother at the family’s old home in Nicholls, in neighboring Coffee County.

Altomease also had a daughter who was approximately 7 or 8 years old at the time. The little girl has since grown up and become a mother herself, according to Terrell, who spoke with WALB in June 2026. Their family still has no confirmed account of what happened to Altomease that night.
