A Detroit mother says she is afraid to return to her own home after a confrontation over a disagreement between children ended with a gunshot that injured both her and her seven-year-old daughter. Alexis Reaves and Alayah Porties survived the October 12, 2026, shooting, but Alayah required emergency open-heart surgery after bullet fragments threatened to damage her heart.
The violence unfolded at the family’s apartment on Detroit’s east side in Wayne County, Michigan. Investigators allege that the father of another child involved in an earlier dispute forced his way into the residence and fired a handgun as Alexis attempted to shut her front door.
Alexis was wounded in the arm, while Alayah suffered a gunshot wound near her collarbone and chest. Alexis’s four-year-old son was also present and witnessed the shooting.
The accused gunman, Aaron Matthew Wright, 32, was later arrested and charged with 17 felonies, including two counts of assault with intent to murder.
